2018 Carnivals.

The 2018 Australian National Footy Carnival is in Coffs Harbour.

The Australian National Football Carnival was held this year from October 2nd to October 8th in Geelong with the following Cray’s registering for the Carnival and it was a helluva week. JD strained his knee but still played, Ditch strained his achilles tendon and tore his calf muscle and played 2 games,  Mego won his division Gold medal (50’s), Schilgy played all 3 games, Teuns came runner up B&F in the 45’s, Rat made the all Australian team and MVP in the 35/s and Elio was crowned 100 metre champion in the 35/s which means we had the best week in Geelong and that we’re going to Coffs harbour next year.

The 2017 Lawrie Evans Memorial match between Vic Country and Vic Metro was played on Sun 11th June in Mulwala. 2 games were played with the 47’s kicking off first and came away with a big win to Vic Country. Final Score was Country – 18.18.114 def Metro – 3.2.20. Crays JD and Ditch lined up in the 47’s with JD in the best and ditch having a crack. (a cracked rib). The 35’s was a hard fought game with both sides giving it their all. Crays players Az, Jonno, Wayna, Schilgy all were in the best. Wayna kicked the winning goal just before the final siren and played in the ruck in the second half. Results. Country – 10.6.66 def Metro – 9.11.65. Well done Vic Country and Vic Metro on a top day.

Vic Country defeated Vic Metro in both games on Sat night at Shep with Schilgy and Johnno in the action for the 35’s and Squealer, Youngy, Teuns, JD and Ditch having a crack in the 50’s. Vic Country had about a dozen on the interchange so we kept rotating players to give everyone a run. Teuns rucked the entire game dominating. Vic Country hold the Lawrie Evans Shield for the third year in a row. Top effort. Scores. 35’s. Vic Country 10.10.70 def Vic Metro 0.8.8. 50’s. Vic Country 10.5.65 def Vic Metro 1.6.12.

Cray’s Football Carnival – Saturday 13th February 2016 at Wodonga Senior Secondary College. the 3rd Inaugural Footy Carnival was a big day with Cudgewa Blues taking the Honours winning all their games. Geelong, Benalla and Cray’s competed. Top day.

Results from the 2015 Lawrie Evans Memorial Game between Vic Country and Vic Metro. This year the game was played at Shepparton instead of Barooga to promote Superules in the area and hopefully Shepp might field a team next year. That would benefit the Cray’s with a couple of teams in the North East which would reduce travel etc. Vic Country were Victors over Metro on the night in perfect conditions. 11 Cray’s made the trip – Schilgy, JD, Youngy, Teuns, Richo, Grub, Ditch, Az, Johnno, Tizza and Mego made the trip with Richo bagging 2 and singles to Schilgy, Grub and Youngy. Az, Youngy, Schilgy, JD, Teuns and Richo were in the best. Great effort.

24/02/14. The Crays Lightning Premiership Mini Carnival on Saturday 22nd Feb at Wodonga Senior Secondary School was a huge day. Perfect weather, the ground in top nick, plenty of food and refreshments and to top it off 5 games of action packed footy. Echuca Eagles, Murray Crays, Geelong/Wagga and Presidents competed for the Inaugural Premiership Cup and bragging rights for the next 12 months. The Presidents were victorious on the day defeating the Cray’s in the final. Their is a healthy rivalry between these two teams now so it will be a cracker when the Cray’s and Presidents match up again at next year’s Carnival. The cup is now proudly on display at the Stump Hotel. Glenn Eddy won the Tim Flower medal player of the carnival which was awarded by Craig Eastick in recognition of past player Tim.

2013 Vic Country vs Vic Metro at Barooga

The annual Vic Country vs Vic Metro match at Barooga back in June saw two matches played on the day the 35’s and 45’s. We had quite a few Cray’s playing in both games. In the 35’s Andrew Leonard (drew), Hayden Miles (H), Dale Skinner (Skin), Nic Conway (Narra), Jason Dowell (JD), Lloyd Browne) (Arlarv), Steve Anderson (Ando), Brett Roberts (Robbo), Mark Young (Youngy) and Wayne Schilg (Schilgy) lined up. Taki Griparis (Tak), Steve Webster (Webby), Al Skinner (Al), Chris Modra (Mods) and Troy Megson (Mego) lined up for the 45’s. A few highlights on the day. 35’s-H kicked 3 goals, Narra won the Medal for best player, Drew dominated in the ruck, Skin, Robbo and Ando were in the best, JD, Lloyd, Youngy and Schilgy played well. 45’s-Webby booted 2 in the 45’s,Mods in the ruck, Taki racked up possessions, Mego battled with his hammy, Al knocking out his opponent accidently, ditch did the goal umpiring and Dave Coleman rocked up and supported. Al did the running for the 35’s and played in the 45’s, Skin did the running for the 45’s and Reidy and Mossy helped out on the bench. Unfortunately Vic Country lost both games (probably why) but overall it was a great day and well organized by the League.

A brief history on the Vic Country vs Vic Metro concept. It began about 12 years ago and was played at various venues around Victoria up until 2008. Since 2008 it has been played at Barooga. Both teams play for the Lawrie Evans Perpetual Shield each year. Lawrie Evans was a past life member and Treasurer of Geelong Superules Football Club also Life member and Treasurer of Vic Country League. He made the all Australian Hall of Fame in 2006 and sadly passed away in 2009. Since Lawrie’s passing Vic Country and Vic Metro play this game each year in his honour. The rules are you have to be over 35 and a registered player with Vic Country or Vic Metro and you can play. The team consists of players from all Vic Country / Vic Metro teams. Victors in the past few years are 2010-Vic Country. 2011-Vic Metro. 2012-Vic Country. 2013-Vic Metro, 2014-Vic Country, 2015-Vic Country so there is quite a healthy rivalry between the two Leagues.

They also select a best player from each team on the day with Cray’s player Troy Megson winning the medal last year in 2012 and Nic Conway winning it this year 2013 for Vic Country. Since the Murray Cray’s joined the Vic Country League 4 years ago we’ve had players represent Vic Country each year since. The day is a family day and played in a competitive and friendly fashion and look forward to next year and have a crack at Vic Metro and regain the title. Football.
